“Kai Xin” is a 2005 Bavaria 39 Cruiser. She was first launched in Hong Kong where here owner sailed her extensively, before sailing to Pattaya. 2nd owner sailed her from Pattaya to Langkawi. 3rd owner from Langkawi to Singapore in 2021.
Designed and built with cruising as the priority, the Bavaria 39 is popular thanks to the build quality, spacious accommodation, and right mixture of performance and comfort. The cockpit is well designed and spacious, the folding Lewmar wheel (2021) makes it even easier to move around when anchored or berthed. The cockpit table has storage and drains, can even be filled with ice and used as a drinks cooler. The binnacle is more than wide enough to house the Raymarine Axiom 7″ MFD, Tridata, Wind and Autopilot displays. All Raymarine equpiment is networked, giving full navigation, wind, engine, radar and AIS data on the Axiom MFD.
The cockpit is well covered by the full length bimini which zips to the dodger, but can be quickly removed in sections for greater visibility when sailing.
Aft of the cockpit, a strong solar arch and davits have been added, housing 600w of PV panels, GPS antenna, Radar dome and 2:1 pulleys to easily launch/recover the Highfield UL290 tender.
The pushpit rails house the horseshoe life rings, throwline, essential drinks holders, outboard motor (optional) and gas BBQ. 2 gas bottles fit in the port lazarette when underway and can be stored out of the way in the cockpit when in use.
Kai Xin has a roller furling 140% Genoa (Zoom sails, 2021), a slab reefing Mainsail (Zoom sails, 2021) with 2 points of Selden single line reefing. A spinnaker and spare genoa are stored under the forward berth.
Standing rigging was fully replaced in 2021, running rigging has been replaced as necessary during 2021 to 2022.
There is a boom tent that runs all the way back to the bimini, and can connect to a bow tent that goes over the whisker pole for total deck cover from the elements.
During haul out in 2021, Kai Xin was antifouled, had new sail drive membrane installed, engine fully serviced, several seacocks changed and galvanic isolator installed amongst other works.
Below deck, there is huge headroom throughout all the accommodation. There are 13 opening hatches and portholes in total, with 12v fans fitted in each cabin there is always plenty of air flow even in hot and humid Singapore.
All interior upholstery in salon and all 3 cabins was replaced in 2021 with Sunbrella fabric, and can be easily removed for cleaning. LED lights and fans fitted throughout. The large wrap around settee in the salon has storage underneath and behind it, as well as the deep cupboards and shelves, giving plenty of room for food, drinks, tools and spares.
The galley (to port) has a new Eno Gascogne 3 burner stove with grill and oven, installed in 2022. The 12v top loader fridge was also re-gassed in 2022. An Engels 12v/220v fridge-freezer is included that performs really well and runs off the solar with minimal power consumption. A Splash 25 12v watermaker is provided, but not yet installed.
The navigation table (to starboard) has room for charts, books, more tools and spares in lockers below, and has flush mounted Raymarine Axiom 9″ MFD (2022), Vesper Watchmate AIS, Standard Horizon VHF, Battery monitor and large Bavaria switch panel. All navigation systems are networked and integrated, so all data including engine, AIS, navigation, performance and radar can be displayed on the Axiom MFD.
The large aft berths sleep 2 comfortably. Underneath the port quarterberth is access to the aft water tank (cleaned and disinfected 2022). There is a good size hanging locker, shelves and separate locker. Underneath the starboard quarterberth is access to the fuel tank, and this cabin has the same storage space. Both aft cabins have opening hatches, LED lights, 12v fans and curtains.
The large forward cabin has a single seat, a large double berth, 2 opening hatches, 2 portholes, 12v fan, 3 LED lights, plenty of storage, and private access to the ensuite head.
There are 2 full size heads on board. The main head has Jabsco manual toilet (pump replaced 2022) with standing shower and dry-running shower sump pump. The ensuite head in the forward cabin has a 2nd Jabsco manual toilet (pump also replaced 2022) with shower faucet over the sink and dry running shower sump pump. Both heads have plenty of dry storage, and separate 50L holding tanks or direct pump out.
With this level of accommodation, equipment and performance, it is easy to see why Bavaria 39 Cruisers have been so popular around the world.
Kai Xin is well setup to continue cruising, a great boat for sailing around Singapore and exploring Southeast Asia or even further.
