“Tropicana” is a 2014 Chaparral 225 SSi Sports Cabin. Her current owners since 2019 have enjoyed the boat and kept her well maintained both cosmetically and mechanically.
Highlights:
Year: 2014
Engine: Mercruiser 4.3 MPI V6 with Alpha One drive
Hours: 200
Location: Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (dry stack)
Chaparral are famous for their excellent build quality, this can be seen from the hull design through to the clever features with the cockpit seating and cabin layout which all help to give the 225 SSi the perception of being a much larger, and much more expensive boat.
The deep-vee hull cuts through the choppy waters of Singapore very well, the boat rides through the waves without slapping and thumping like less well-designed boats can. The gelcoat still looks very fresh, thanks to the current and previous owners taking good care of it. A removable camper canvas zips neatly onto the bimini giving you good cover from the weather and helping keep the boat clean in the (RSYC Marina) dry stack.
Step onto the swim platform with it’s recessed swim ladder and you will notice the remote controls for the stereo – a very nice feature when you’re relaxing there or jumping in and out of the water. Open up a hatch in the walkway through the transom and you’ll be delighted to find a coolbox ready to keep all your drinks on ice while you’re at sea.
To make the swim platform an even more sociable area Chaparral added a rear and front-facing bench seat which slides down on a hidden rail system into a large flat sun-lounger opening up the whole cockpit and swim platform into one big entertainment space. There is another bench seat to port, wet bar to starboard with fresh water and shower faucet, then Chaparral’s signature helm seat to starboard with adjustable bolster, and a matching passenger seat to port.
The helm position is well laid out with all gauges clearly visible at all times. The original Garmin 521S chartplotter is still installed.
The cabin is the real surprise on Tropicana, you step down through the folding door into a surprisingly large space with U-shaped seating around the bow. Chaparral’s rail system is installed on these seats as well so they quickly slide down to make a comfortable V-berth sleeping 2 people. There are 12v lights in here, the stereo controls (installed in 2019) and a toilet hidden away under a small recess. Overall a very clever use of space on a boat where the competitors design their cabins just to throw your water toys, Tropicana has a cabin you can actually enjoy using.
2 steps lead up through the opening windshield onto the bow area with access to the anchor locker and another usable area for enjoying the sun.
Access to the engine is under the convertible aft bench seat/sun-lounger. The hatch opens up giving very good access to all areas of the engine and battery compartments. Routine engine checks, maintenance and servicing are all easily done with this level of access. The engine has been maintained by Heinrich Engineering, and in January 2023 had new exhaust manifolds, elbows, and full service (spark plugs, fluids, filters, gaskets etc.) completed.
Tropicana is in great condition and has been in regular use with her current owners who are leaving Singapore so looking to sell on quickly, hence the low price.
